Increasing COVID cases in the Dongguan/Shenzhen area have led Shenzhen to reduce the daily target for Shenzhen-Hong Kong cross border truck movements from 3,500 to 1,500, beginning July 24 until further notice. This reduces capacity to just 10–20% of normal. The move is expected to significantly stimulate demand for alternative cross border solutions over water.
In addition, stricter testing policies have been enacted. Truck drivers must show proof of a negative test result within 24 hours, versus the previous 48 hours. From July 24 to July 31, major brands (Huawei, ZTE, SMC, BYD, Foxconn, etc) must have all staff do a daily PCR test and restrict unnecessary physical contact.
Alternative Solutions
- Use Truck-Truck routing via Qianhai (Bonded Area) Shenzhen (CN<->HK). This 2-day service uses the Shenzhen Bay customs crossing and takes full advantage of Dimerco’s truck capacity. Once in Hong Kong, freight can be delivered locally or prepared for immediate export.

This solution allows shipping of FCL containers between Dongguan Humen Seaport to Dimerco’s HKG warehouse. Freight can then be delivered locally to the Hong Kong market or transloaded for immediate export.
