Bangalore
Logistics Advantages

Bangalore has become a prime logistics hub in India for a couple of reasons:

The city is in the middle of a huge consumer market in Southern India for ecommerce distribution. Bangalore alone has more than 14 million people. Amazon, Walmart, Flipkart, and many more retailers operate large distribution centers here.

The city, known as “India’s Silicon Valley,” is a mecca for high-tech manufacturing. There is a critical need for professional warehouse services to ensure the smooth flow of goods to factories, and to get goods to market quickly once they are produced.

The city’s logistics advantages include:

  • Strategic location. Bangalore is an economical hub for distributing goods to various parts of the region, including Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Maharashtra.
  • Cost Efficiency. While Bangalore is a major urban center, operational costs, including labor and real estate, are quite competitive. Proximity to suppliers and manufacturers reduces transportation costs and lead times.
  • Well-developed infrastructure. This includes an advanced road system and modern distribution centers like Dimerco’s Bangalore warehouse.
  • Warm climate. The weather is favorable for warehousing, reducing risks related to extreme weather conditions that can affect goods storage and transportation.

FAQs

Is an e-way bill mandatory for the movement of goods in India, and who is responsible for obtaining it?

Yes. Under India’s Goods and Services Tax (GST) regulations, an e-way bill is generally required for consignments valued above INR 50,000.

Responsibility typically rests with the party initiating the movement of goods, which is usually the importer, customer, or appointed Importer of Record (IOR).

If Dimerco arranges transportation, we can generate the e-way bill as the transporter based on the required supporting documentation. To ensure compliance, we verify and align invoices, Bills of Entry, and delivery challans before dispatch.

How can Free Trade Warehousing Zone (FTWZ) facilities help businesses manage customs duties and supply chain flexibility for imported goods, especially for zone-to-zone transfers?

A Free Trade Warehousing Zone (FTWZ) is a customs-controlled bonded warehouse environment that can help businesses improve supply chain flexibility and manage duty exposure on imported goods. Key benefits include:

  • Duty deferment while imported goods remain in storage
  • Duty-free re-exports and eligible FTWZ-to-SEZ (Special Economic Zone) transfers
  • Flexible inventory storage and distribution options
  • Support for compliant customs processes

For example, Dimerco supports Formosa para-xylene (HS 2902600000) shipments moving from FTWZ facilities to SEZ, enabling efficient bulk storage and tax-efficient supply chain operations.

Can a foreign company operate in India without a legal entity?

Yes. Foreign companies can access the Indian market without establishing a legal entity by using one of several operational models.

Common options include:

  • An Importer of Record (IOR) model, where an Indian entity such as Dimerco manages import activities, compliance requirements, and applicable taxes.
  • A Free Trade Warehousing Zone (FTWZ) model, which allows imported goods to be stored in a customs-controlled bonded environment with duty deferment and on-demand distribution

Many global customers use a combination of both models to gain greater flexibility while managing compliance and inventory requirements.
